How Witches Learn from the 3 Faces of the Goddess—Ep. 209
“Life is so hard. It seems designed to force us to ask for help,” my friend, Lindsey, said.
That felt like a powerful, truthful idea. I reflected on this. And I talked with a spiritual elder.
Let’s look at the differences between asking the Gods for help—versus asking a person.
Here are some thoughts.
A) Specific
Be specific so the other person knows exactly what you are asking of them. If you are not specific, you will not get exactly what you want. People need specifics. If you really want a red birthday balloon, be specific. If you don’t, you’ll likely feel let down, and the other person will feel like they failed.
B) Simple
Make your request simple. If the request is simple, the other person will feel like it’s easier to help you.
C) It’s okay for them to say “no”
Make an opening for the other person to say “no.” Why? You need to honor the other person’s freedom of choice.
D) Say, “Thank you”
People like feeling appreciated. Say, “thank you” and you keep in good standing with the person. Also, be specific in how you express “thank you.” Instead of a general, “thanks for being kind” say something like: “Thank you for being so thoughtful and remembering that I get nervous before giving a speech. I really appreciate that you listened to me rehearse two days ago.”
A) Specific – with “or better”
As you ask the Gods for help, try to be specific. Most importantly, express to the Gods that you are open to “this or better.” When you leave it open to “or better,” you may get pleasantly surprised. Why? The God and Goddess know you better than you know yourself. Their perspective is cosmic and expansive. The Gods can surprise you by manifesting something that is truly better.
B) What you request can be hard to accomplish
Unlike asking a person, you can ask the Gods for things that are hard to accomplish. They are after all the Gods. They do miracles.
C) Build a relationship with a God or Goddess with offerings
Here’s a metaphor: Imagine that you go to some random person and ask them for something big. They don’t know you. They probably would not be inclined to help you.
On the other hand, the Gods want a relationship with you. In a relationship, for example, a friendship, both people offer help and gifts, receive, and express appreciation. That’s how you build a relationship.
Wiccans give offerings to the God and Goddess.
You can even donate your time to support something a particular Goddess cares about. For example, Bastet is depicted as a cross between a cat and a human. Bastet cares about cats. You could donate money, time, or items to a shelter that specializes in cats. This may be a process to create a relationship.
D) Say, “Thank you.”
Expressing “thank you” is a good start. You can also demonstrate appreciation by donating your time, money, or efforts toward a worthy cause that a particular God or Goddess cares about.
May these insights support your path.
Blessed Be,
Moonwater

How Witches Work Well with the Cycles—Ep. 208
“How do you stay so cheerful?” a customer asked my friend, Sarah.
“Discipline,” Sarah said.
I reflected on this. Sometimes, elevating our spiritual practice feels hard to do.
I have three insights for you.
Having a daily practice is important. Repetition helps us go into a trance-like state.
When you cast a circle in the same manner, the practice becomes part of you. You engrain the motions, words, and feelings. This process helps you enter something I call “The Ritual Zone Mental State.”
For many of us, doing a process is “just work,” until, through practice, we can reliably enter The Ritual Zone Mental State.
It takes time to hone your skill when starting something new.
Repetition is just part of the process.
My friend, Sarah, said, “If you have some routines, then you don’t need to push yourself so much.” The idea is: “Make the decision once. Then you don’t need extra energy or willpower.”
Once you pick a specific ritual and specific time, things become automatic. For example, many of us simply brush our teeth at night as an automatic routine.
Asking the Goddess for help is important. Sometimes, you need that extra help to get things done.
A Prayer for Routines That Make You Stronger
Lovely Lady of the Moon,
Guide me to create routines to
Deepen my practice.
Let them be consistent and powerful.
May I build myself ever stronger.
So Mote It Be.
May these insights support your path.

How Witches Get Off Their Own Case – Ep. 207 Corrected Version
Recently, I was thinking about Samhain and death and rebirth. Sometimes we can look at death as a release. Is it time for a new chapter in your life? Is there something you need to release?
We, witches, know that beyond this life are the Summerlands. Many of us choose rebirth. If your going into a new chapter of your life, what positive energies do you want reborn in you?
Samhain is the final harvest Sabbat of the year. At this time the last crops are gathered and put into storage for the cold winter’s months. The God makes His ultimate sacrifice at this time. But fear not His sacrifice is a willing one, for he does this for his children. The God is symbolized by the last of the harvest. He (the God of the harvest) is cut down (sacrificed) at this time so that we may have food to last us through the winter. The “Johan Barleycorn” songs came from this.
At this time of the year, the cattle and pigs are culled keeping only the ones strong enough to weather the harsh winter months. The meat is then salted and cured so that the people would be able to survive the long winter.
Samhain is also known as the witches’ New Year. The Celts felt that this was the beginning of the year. The reason for this is they believed a new life started at death. You needed to die to be reborn into a new life. That is just what the God has done with His sacrifice. He now resides in the underworld awaiting birth at Yule.
Samhain is also the time to communicate with the dead, The Veil between the worlds is the thinnest at this time. The Veil is the doorway or curtain that separates the land of the living with the land of the dead. Contact between the two worlds is now easily accomplished. So contacting past loved ones is common on this Sabbat. The dead are honored at this time. An example of this in today’s modern society is Mexico’s Day of the Dead.
The Wheel turns to represent death at this Sabbat, only to continue turning at Yule, to the beginning, representing life and rebirth. The eternal cycle of reincarnation is celebrated during Samhain. The old God dies to be reborn at Yule.
Blessed be,

How Witches Adapt to Anything That Comes Up – Ep. 206
“Oh! Careful with that container,” my friend, Sarah, said.
She carefully took hold of the plastic container and smiled. She said, “Macadamia nuts and chocolate— my happy place!”
Later, I thought about happiness. Some of us have rules that prevent us from being happy in this present moment.
Here are three insights.
Have you heard a friend say, “When I get the new job, I’ll be happy”?
Really? One has a rule that one must have a new job to feel happy?
When you put rules on when you can be happy, it’s like putting up a brick wall between you and happiness.
I have learned that I can be dealing with problems—and still, I can experience happy moments.
This is where we can turn to the Gods.
Letting go of your requirements can be daunting. We have such strong opinions of when and how we can be happy. We tell ourselves that we will be happy when [fill in the blank].
It seems like we just don’t allow ourselves to be happy—in this present moment.
On the other hand, here is a prayer for the Goddess to guide you to let go of those barriers.
A Prayer for the Goddess to Help You Remove Barriers
Lovely Lady of the brilliant Moon
Guide me to my happiness real soon.
Help me remove my barriers one by one.
Every one of them till I am done.
May happiness flow through me
For now, and always.
So Mote It Be
3. Realize all that you have been given by the Gods for your life at this present moment.
Because I deal with depression symptoms each day, I struggle with being stuck in a dark place.
With all my blessings, one would think I could just notice how good things are.
I have many good things in my life. I have food. I am not in a war zone. I love my husband, and he loves me. I have a roof over my head. I have friends and family who love me. And there is more.
I have a friend who writes down five things that he’s grateful for each night. He writes in a journal. He says that this helps him “go to sleep happy.”
I realize that it’s time that we count our blessings and acknowledge them. Better yet, we can do a ritual to thank the God and Goddess for Their gifts.
For example, earlier today, I did a candle-lighting ritual to thank Squat, the Parking Goddess. I was grateful for Her support.
May these insights support your path.
Blessed Be,

How Witches Make Their Own “Book of Comfort” – Ep. 205
“How are you doing?” I asked my husband.
He stopped. He blinked like he had not thought about his own internal state of being.
Then he spoke with heartfelt thoughts.
I was glad I had really paused and listened.
I have three insights for you.
Years ago, I heard an idea: For comfort one person, Susan, ate chicken soup. She disliked tomato soup. Her partner, George, was quite different. He depended on tomato soup. A real problem is no matter how much tomato soup George prepares for Susan, it will not comfort her.
People are different in their perceptions, needs, and sources of comfort.
George needs to ask Susan what she finds comforting.
How about your relationships? Have you asked a friend how you can support her in the way she prefers?
I’ve noticed that life is so tough for many of us. We’re dealing with our personal problems. We’re distracted.
A Prayer
Lord and Lady, quiet down my own distraction,
So I can listen to the other person.
Quiet my mind,
So I can hear.
Open my heart,
So my [friend] knows I care and I love them.
So Mote It Be.
I’ve learned that the Goddess truly wants to support us.
“I am the Gracious Goddess, who gives the gift of joy unto the heart.” – The Goddess speaking in The Charge of the Goddess, as written by Doreen Valiente
A Prayer
Gracious Goddess, please elevate my relationship with [friend’s name]
Strengthen us so we can comfort each other
Open our hearts to opportunities to show we care and love each other.
So Mote It Be.
May these insights support your path.
Blessed Be,
Moonwater
