Missing Closeness in Relationships – See What Goddess Points To … (A Witch’s Perspective)

“I don’t think she cares anymore,” my friend, Bert, said of his wife.

I reflected on this.

Bert, like many men, places all the burden of emotional support on his wife.

It’s heavy!

A comedian noted that when a wife dies, the man falls apart.

However, when the man dies, the widow carries on with grace because she has a group of women to support her.

I thought about this. The Goddess directs our attention to nature.

I have two insights for you.

1. In an ecosystem, each being plays a role.

I like sharks. Now, do I want to swim with them? – No!

There was a book called How to Swim with the Sharks…

No thanks. I’ll swim in a swimming pool.

But sharks, the coral reef, lionfish, sea turtles, and sea anemones all play a role.

So, if you want more closeness in a relationship, make sure you have an ecosystem – that is, a community.

Then, you can relieve the relationship of some emotional burden.

You can come back together refreshed and open to your special bond.

2. The Goddess revels in Her Three Phases.

The God respects the Goddess. And She respects Herself.

We, witches, find grace and peace when we flow through our phases.

I think about my teen years. My face had no creases.

But I’ll celebrate my wisdom right now.

How about you?

Are you finding your personal value in the phase of life you’re in now?

May these insights support your path.

Blessed Be,
Moonwater

How to Face an Opponent (A Witch’s Perspective)

“I can’t believe it. She’s my mother. She’s supposed to be on my side,” my friend, Alicia, said.

I nodded and listened.

Alicia’s mother, at this time, was her opponent.

I have insights for you.

1. Acknowledge the nature of the opponent.

Researchers are noting aspects of narcissists.

“A narcissist is an extremely self-centered person who has an exaggerated sense of self-importance.” – Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Alicia’s mother demonstrates narcissism. Perhaps, you’ve noticed that narcissists do not care, and they do not learn.

What can Alicia do? She can guard her time and her personal energy.

She can set her boundaries. She can, when necessary, end her phone conversations with her mother.

Do you need to set boundaries with an opponent in your life?

    2. Face The Three-fold Law.

The Wiccans I know believe in The Three-fold Law.

This Law holds that what you send out returns upon you with three times the impact.

It is a temptation to want to wield magick to punish the opponent. Whoa! Stop.

Instead, it is better to use prayer, ritual, and meditation to strengthen yourself.

For example, if I faced a truly tough time, I would call upon Fire energy and I would ask the God to give me strength. I would call upon the Goddess to grant me Her Warrior Spirit

What would help you strengthen yourself?

May these insights support your path.

    Blessed Be,

    Beltane 2025

    Sunflowers

    Sunflowers

Happy Beltane to all! May you be blessed with the season’s energies.

    Beltane

To our ancestors, Beltane celebrates the beginning of summer. Bale or “bon” fires are an important part of the Beltane Sabbat. All fires at home or in shops were extinguished and then re-lit from the sacred bonfires that blazed on the tops of the surrounding hills. This was also the time when the herds were blessed. The people marched their cattle around and between the bonfires to bring good luck and fertility and to protect them during the year.

The Sabbat Beltane, coincides with when the God actually impregnates the Goddess. This sacred act ensures the continued fertility for crops and animals throughout the light half of the year (between the Spring and Fall Equinoxes.)  A popular symbol for this sacred act, the May Pole represents the impregnation of the goddess. A May Pole is a pole set erect in the ground with ribbons attached on the top. People then each take a ribbon and dance in a weaving pattern around the pole. The pole represents God’s phallus and the colorful ribbons that the dancers wind around the May Pole represent the goddess with her flowers a-blooming. And so the impregnation of the Goddess is fulfilled.

    Blessed be,

    How Witches Handle Criticism

“Your film doesn’t work. It’s really two different films,” said four people in my friend Sacha’s circle.

“I don’t know what to do,” she told me.

“Do your friends want what’s best for you?” I asked.

“Yes. I trust them. I know them,” Sacha replied.

I realized that the first question about facing criticism is:  “Does the person want good things for you?”

I’ve noticed that some people just can’t handle it if you share a deep part of yourself with them. I felt heartbroken when I shared with one particular friend that I am a witch. As soon as she knew this, she left my life.

A couple of days later, Sacha posted her film on YouTube, despite her friends’ criticism.

Nothing bad happened. Her friends stood by her. And, 200 people saw the film, with no conflicting comments.

Here’s another point about criticism. I realized that people who left my life when they found out I am a witch really did not know what a witch is!

They had unfounded prejudices. So, this second point is: Do not accept criticism from people who do not know what they’re talking about.

I recall that an elder, Don Frew, mentioned: “When someone talks about a witch or pagan, ask them, ‘What do you mean by that label?” That may be an opening for a conversation.

Here is a prayer you can use:

Lord of the Hunt, Lady of the Moon,
Help me deal well with criticism soon.
    Support me in my truth.
    For my divinity is proof.

    So Mote It Be.

May these insights support your path.

    Blessed Be,
    Moonwater

How Witches Know When to Walk Toward the Fear

Terrified. That was the right word. I stood in front of the audience about to give my first speech at a Toastmasters meeting.

It did not matter that other people would speak after me. They would be nervous, too.

My own fear made me shake.

Speaking aloud in front of an audience had not gone well in my past. I remembered reading a paragraph aloud in a high school English class. My dyslexia made me sound like an idiot.

The teacher said, “Okay that’s enough.”

Fellow student, Joe Jerk-face said, “Yeah! That’s enough!”

And now at Toastmasters, I was about to give a speech. Crap!

I said, “I couldn’t breathe. My brother held me underwater. Why would he torture a little girl? When I coughed up the water, the swimming pool didn’t look like a place to play. How much more of this life could I survive?” A few minutes in, I saw two people nod. (Oh, thank you! Good humans!)

    After I finished. Some applause.

    All good.

Even better. I was proud of myself. I had walked toward my fear.

Later, I went on to be a guest speaker – over 12 times – at a Comparative Religion college course to introduce people to Wicca. That was new for them. It still was a tough stretch for me to talk to an audience but … again and again … I walked toward the fear.

    Here are three insights.

    1. Keep yourself safe.

Number one. Keep yourself safe. Can you get physically hurt if you take on a risk?
David, someone in my circle, was a movie stuntman over 20 years ago. Would he risk his health or life today? No f***ing way!

Still, he took precautions during his stuntman time. He also refused to do certain stunts. And, he’s alive to tell the tale.

Are you thinking of taking a risk that could hurt you physically? Like walking in a dangerous area? Just after the bars close? Hold up! Stay safe.

      2. Decide what you value most. Drop the distractions.

Other risks may mean temporary pain.
So, high school kids laughed at my reading a paragraph. I still adapt to having dyslexia.

But, you know what? Who cares about high school kids’ laughter?!

I have to value your opinion in order to let it control me.

What do you value most? Is it growing as a person? Pushing beyond some artificial limits?

When do you feel most alive?

      3. Ask Goddess for support.

When I have walked toward fear, I was answering the call of divinity that Goddess placed within me.

Here is a prayer you can use:

Goddess, help me answer the call,
Help me know the true call from the false call.
Show me how to walk into the unknown with Your strength.
      So Mote It Be.

May these insights support your journey.

      Blessed Be,
      Moonwater

      How Witches Change Their Awareness

My cat shares my Diet Coke … well, he licks the condensation off the bottle.

But I can tell he likes being part of what I’m doing.

I get him toys, but it’s the Diet Coke bottle that he likes!

      I reflected on this.

I have a particular insight for you.

Be open to little things. And, your awareness changes your experience of the next day.

Recently, my friend, Irma, faced a lot of pain. She wrenched her back. She had an earache, sore throat, no energy, and chronic pain in her shoulder.

Instead of only focusing on pain, Irma chose to rest up and then find moments to talk with friends on the phone.

      These moments lifted her spirit.

Here is a prayer you can use.

      Goddess,
Open my eyes to the precious little things in life.
Shift my next moments to joy and peace.
      So Mote It Be.

May these insights support your path.

How to Handle Worries about “The Other Shoe Dropping” – A Witch’s Perspective

My father is facing a surgical procedure. Something is wrong inside his bladder. I am also helping my elderly parents move to another living facility. Lots of pressure for us all.

      What more can go wrong?

If you face these kinds of worries—often called “being afraid of the other shoe dropping” … I have one particular insight for you.

Use a chant to focus your mind and release you from worry.

Here is a chant you can use.

“Goddess knows. And Goddess protects me.”

Say this at least 3 times. As you likely know, 3 is a sacred number.

Goddess knows everything that there is to know, and She will surround you with protection.

Tuning into this reality can be a “breath of fresh air.”

      Consider trying this.

Recently, I held hands with my husband, and we said this chant aloud together.

      This Chant really helps.

May this insight support your journey.

      Blessed Be,
      Moonwater

How Witches Deal with Awful Texts

I felt gutted by an awful text.
This person does not know me, but they showed big-time irritation.
I used words like “Sorry for the inconvenience. ….. mistake …. Please let me know about …. Thank you.”
But this person made a big thing out of a small situation.

Have you recently received an awful text?

I have three insights for you.

      1. Avoid ruminating.

The text really bothered me. I felt the person was so irritated at me for such a small matter. I had trouble falling asleep that night because I just kept ruminating on what I could have said to make the situation better.

Do you ever pause and realize that it does not matter what you might have said? That is, some people are just twisted. They’re going to be mad at somebody—and you just happened along.

To avoid ruminating, you can run a chant in your mind. Something like: Thank you, Goddess. I’m grateful for all my blessings.” You can repeat this over and over – in your mind – and perhaps, fall asleep.

        2. Do what you can—let go of the rest.

The thread of texts ended with the other person insisting that she not be bothered. The problem was one I did not create. The delivery service screwed up the address on my order.

Dealing with the other person, I just replied with “Certainly.” End of conversation.

I don’t know what was going on in this person’s life. Maybe they are having family problems. Or perhaps, they fear losing their job. Who knows?

So, I guide myself by saying, “You did your best and let go of the rest.”

        3. Invite Goddess to Support You by Pouring “Clear Water” into you.

Years ago, I saw a workshop leader pour clear water into a glass cup that was befouled with inky water. The clear water went in. The inky water flowed out … until only clear water remained in the glass cup.

I did a brief meditation. I visualized myself as a vessel of water befouled with the negativity of that text. I then used a prayer to the Goddess.  I invited the Goddess to pour “clear water” into me.

        Prayer to the Goddess:

        Dear Lady of the Moon
        Guide me to stay strong
Pour Your loving energy like clear water into me.
Have negative energy flow out through my feet
        Dissipating into the earth
        Made Harmless to all.
        So Mote It Be.

May these insights support your path.

        Blessed Be,
        Moonwater
