How Witches Deal with Awful Texts

I felt gutted by an awful text.
This person does not know me, but they showed big-time irritation.
I used words like “Sorry for the inconvenience. ….. mistake …. Please let me know about …. Thank you.”
But this person made a big thing out of a small situation.

Have you recently received an awful text?

I have three insights for you.

1. Avoid ruminating.

The text really bothered me. I felt the person was so irritated at me for such a small matter. I had trouble falling asleep that night because I just kept ruminating on what I could have said to make the situation better.

Do you ever pause and realize that it does not matter what you might have said? That is, some people are just twisted. They’re going to be mad at somebody—and you just happened along.

To avoid ruminating, you can run a chant in your mind. Something like: Thank you, Goddess. I’m grateful for all my blessings.” You can repeat this over and over – in your mind – and perhaps, fall asleep.

    2. Do what you can—let go of the rest.

The thread of texts ended with the other person insisting that she not be bothered. The problem was one I did not create. The delivery service screwed up the address on my order.

Dealing with the other person, I just replied with “Certainly.” End of conversation.

I don’t know what was going on in this person’s life. Maybe they are having family problems. Or perhaps, they fear losing their job. Who knows?

So, I guide myself by saying, “You did your best and let go of the rest.”

    3. Invite Goddess to Support You by Pouring “Clear Water” into you.

Years ago, I saw a workshop leader pour clear water into a glass cup that was befouled with inky water. The clear water went in. The inky water flowed out … until only clear water remained in the glass cup.

I did a brief meditation. I visualized myself as a vessel of water befouled with the negativity of that text. I then used a prayer to the Goddess.  I invited the Goddess to pour “clear water” into me.

    Prayer to the Goddess:

    Dear Lady of the Moon
    Guide me to stay strong
Pour Your loving energy like clear water into me.
Have negative energy flow out through my feet
    Dissipating into the earth
    Made Harmless to all.
    So Mote It Be.

May these insights support your path.

    Blessed Be,
    Moonwater

A Wiccan Perspective: Staying Strong in the Face of a Car Accident

Scrraaapp! A brunch of scratch marks manifested on the side of my car.

Oooh! I got so mad I could spit.

Maybe you can relate to this. An accident. The problem was there were only two elements involved: one human (me) and one pole (it was a SHORT pole—one that was hard to see).

This pole collision happened a couple of hours earlier today.

How did I fall into this mess?

It was a confluence of a number of things. I had two friends visiting from out of town. Feeling sleep deprived, I still made it to have lunch with them. Add the hot weather and the sun beating down on my fair skin, and I probably approached heatstroke.

Tired, thirsty and hot, I finally arrived at my car when the visit came to a close. Pulling out of the parking space and feeling really uncomfortable, I was confused as to how to exit the parking structure.

In my defense … I dutifully followed the arrows on the ground near the exit. But the turn was way to tight and I scraped that damn short pole.

I was so angry at myself. On my way home all I could think of was “You f**king idiot!” I ruminated on how I should have been more careful.

Do you beat yourself up about your own mistakes?

At least back at home, I drank a lot of water. Time to get to the autobody shop. I ruminated again. This time I thought: “It’s Friday. They may have already closed for the weekend.” I called the shop; they would give me an estimate.

I got to the shop. They fit me in. The tech guy said, “I’ll be right back.” When he returned, he had two squeeze bottles and a rag. He wiped some liquid on the effected area and slowly the scuff started to come off. I was so thrilled to see that!

Soon all the yellow paint was off, and I gave him my vial of blue touch-up paint. A moment later, the car looked fine. And the best part? It cost me nothing.

I said, “Thank you. I’m so grateful. That’s why we keep having our cars worked on here.”

    The tech guy smiled.

After this, I had some thoughts. What was I supposed to learn here?

What I learned is: I didn’t have a buffer. If I had more sleep and had done meditation this week, I could have had more patience for the situation and myself.

When I talk with Wiccans, sometimes, we say, “I know what I should do. I just don’t get around to doing meditation or ritual.”

So, I just stopped writing this post, and I did a candle ritual—thanking the God and Goddess for the good outcome to the pole collision incident.

What can you do to deepen your Wiccan practice?

Remember, a bad surprise can happen at any time.

We, Wiccans, need to create a buffer in our lives. We need to back off and not burden ourselves too much. We need to preserve our personal energy.

    Blessed Be,
    Moonwater

I don’t generally write reviews on books I’ve read…but this time i feel lead to. This book spoke volumes to me, as if the author knew exactly where I’m coming from and what I’m struggling with. It’s not often a book can make me cry, but this one did by making me see the many blocks I’ve put up in my life. I knew they were there, but I’ve gotten skilled at pretending they’re not. Thank you for helping me see I’m not some freak because of circumstances throughout my life that have caused the blocks, and that i need to stop hiding from or burying them and face them one step at a time. – Crystal Sparks

    Wiccans Handle Stress and Prejudice

    Bring Peace to Yourself

    Bring Peace to Yourself

How Wiccans Can Handle Stress and Prejudice

We all deal with stress in our lives. However, members of a minority religion face additional stressors. Many Wiccans and Pagans in general have experienced some form of prejudice and some have even been the victims of hate crimes. These and other terrible acts upon us can really take a toll.

Although I am fortunate to live in the San Francisco Bay Area where there is more acceptance of people with differences, I have still faced prejudice. I have lost friendships and suffered the actions of intolerant people.

So how can we combat the stresses of such actions?

First, assess the situation. Can you educate the offending person? I have been in situations when the offending person thinks he’s right and will hear nothing that differs from his beliefs.

Make sure no one is being harmed. There is a big difference between offensive words and physical violence. One may need to take action. Maybe you need to quickly get to a place of safety. One might even have to call 911 for police intervention.

Take care of your own feelings. Before I get caught up in an aggression tornado, I remember to simply breathe. Concentrating on your breath is a great way to help yourself calm down. Then you can take control of the words that come out of your mouth. You can’t control what they say, but you can control what you say and do.

Find your way to compassion. The Gods and Goddesses love their children (all of them) so become the Goddess in her nurturing state. Let her energy flow within you. Let the Goddess help you select your words. Avoid words that sting, instead say something constructive and nurturing to the conversation. How would this sound? One way to respond is: “I heard what you said. That’s not what my life is about. I’m leaving this room.”

When I say compassion, I do not mean let them walk all over you. The idea is to make space in yourself to understand those who are ignorant of your beliefs. They don’t know what they are talking about. To take their words personally gives them power. Do not let that happen. Do not give these untruths any power.

Renew yourself. Once the incident is over, take some time to do a Breathing Meditation. I know how much it helps as a salve to the wounds their words have left.

Find a quiet place where you know you will not be disturbed. Silence your cell phone or home phone. Get comfortable and relax. You can burn some of your favorite incense and light a candle. I find dimming the lights to be helpful.

    Here is the process:

As you relax, close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing. Breathing in and out deeply, envision a beautiful white light shinning down and surrounding you. Next, deeply breathe in that light, pulling in the beautiful cleansing properties of it. Hold this breath for the count of three.

When you breathe out, picture a black smoke made of those toxic words, actions and emotions. You expel the black smoke from your body. Imagine the black smoke absorbed and purified by the light around you. After your exhalation, hold your breath for a count of three. This is where you acknowledge the transformation of energy.

Continue this process until you feel you have expelled all of the negative comments/feelings/energies that were placed upon you. Finish this meditation by thanking the Gods for their shinning light.

May this meditation renew you and free you of any negative effects created by prejudice.

Once free of toxins, you can experience the blessings of life with the Gods and Goddesses.

    Blessings,

    Moonwater
