“I don’t understand. I finally have a good conversation with my father. But this morning, I woke up from a nightmare that included him being mean,” my friend, Fred. said. “What the hell does this mean?”
“It means you want to know what the key to your dreams is,” I replied.
I have three insights for you.
- You are the key to your dreams.
Imagine you had a dream in which there were a bunch of rats. Terrifying, right?
Not to me. I’ve had about 20 domesticated pet rats that have brightened my life. This relates to the key to your dreams. You are the key to your dreams. A lot of us would like to hear definitive answers as to what certain symbols might mean in our dreams. I’ve learned that each individual has an individual meaning for what arises in their dream.
What is most important to you?
What bothers you?
What has you baffled right now?
Certain researchers and authors suggest that your subconscious mind gives you messages in your dreams. Perhaps.
And, perhaps, there’s more to it than that.
- The God and Goddess reach out to you in your dreams.
The God and Goddess can show up in your dreams. They can leave symbols and messages in them. It can be truly hard to decipher the real meaning of the Gods’ appearances or the messages that They have provided you. Witches often rely on divination tools so that they can explore possible meanings. It’s easy to be impatient when we try to decipher our dreams and meanings. Witches discover that certain themes come up over a lifetime as they walk their spiritual path.
What themes? Forgiveness. Be strong. Celebrate your individuality. Show compassion to yourself and others.

- Pray for clarity before you sleep.
Just before you complete your day and go to sleep, you can say this prayer.

Grant me the insight to understand
My dreams and their symbols.
May my understanding lead to joy and peace.

I’ve had some weird ones the last three years, that’s for sure! Jung (or was it Freud) said that the weirder the dream, the more the dreamer should pay attention to it. So I write them down in my journal – the ones I can remember when I awaken. I can always revisit them later and some get posted on my site.
