How Witches Handle When “Nothing is Comfortable – Nothing is Safe”

“Are you okay?” I asked Martha, my longtime friend.
“No.”
I waited and listened.
“Since my parents have both gone to the hospital—two different hospitals. I’m walking around. It all looks different. Like nothing is safe.”
This began an extended conversation.

I have three insights for you.

1. If you don’t feel safe, you’re not broken.
God and Goddess made you to feel it all. The highs and lows. Moments feeling confident. Times of being torn by anxiety.
Often, it is natural to feel these waves of emotion.
If you have access to your High Priest/Priestess, they may be a good source for support.

Remember to reach out to God and Goddess for support, too.

2. Not feeling safe may signal a time of transition and growth.
When transitions happen, feelings of confusion can arise.
Are you not feeling safe?

Yes—we are creatures of habit. We like to know what to expect.

But life keeps hitting us with new and unexpected events.
You have a friend that you feel will be with you to the end. But suddenly, they ghost you.
People get sideswiped by a divorce.
Aging parents change and become demanding. Many become downright bitter.

It’s natural to try to duck pain. But life keeps pulling things away. We experience so much loss.
When things change, many emotions rise including fear.

What can we do? Ritual and meditation. Create moments of peace during your day. Be kind to yourself. Seek soothing music. Do what works for you. And, remember the God and Goddess.

3. Ask Goddess for comfort.
Some things are so big and heavy that we must call on the Goddess.
She stands ready to support us. Do not hesitate. She says, “My law is love” (from The Charge of the Goddess—written by Doreen Valiente in the voice of the Goddess).
Goddess loves you. She wants to help you.

Here is a prayer you can use.

Goddess, help me feel safe in Your arms.
Comfort me, calm me,
Help me in my time of need.
Show me the way to growth and happiness.
So Mote It Be.
