“That’s when he said, ‘When battle lines are drawn.’ That was so intense,” my friend, Adriana, said. She was concerned that she was losing her friend, George.
It was like they could not talk, anymore.
George split the whole world into two types of people. People who agree with him and everyone else as an enemy.
Here are three insights.
- Some people look at everything as a war.
You know the ones. Constantly complaining, and thinking they are always right. They live by the old phrase “If you’re not with me, you’re against me.”
As Wiccans, we try to see multiple sides. We stay alert because the Burning Times are not far from memory. And they could come again. Remember the Goddess says, “My love is poured out upon the earth…for my, Law is Love unto all Beings…Keep pure your highest ideal.” (The Goddess speaking in The Charge of the Goddess, as written by Doreen Valiente)
I make efforts to keep compassion in my heart.
Sometimes, someone is so combative that I must step away. I must be kind to myself. I need to stay strong and live up to the divinity within me.
When do you need to step away and honor the divinity within you?
- You need to be skillful with language.
Sometimes you need to preface what you say with something. Why? So you can (at times) avoid an unnecessary argument. One of my favorite phrases is: I agree with you about ______ and, I feel…
It helps to express something you both agree about. Even if it is just one small thing.
People seem to push their point all day long. If you sincerely express “I agree,” you give them the chance to relax a bit.
Have you said, “I agree” with a friend recently?
- Put up your shield. Only when you’re strong, do you avoid getting dragged down.
Keeping your shield up and working properly is one of the best ways to keep your energy strong.
Have you observed people who are combative? They say things like “when battlelines are drawn.” They’re looking for a fight with many people. They come across as rigid and self-righteous. Really, as people who are self-focused.
Many people currently talk about how “people are so polarized.”
So what is a path for Wiccans? We need to keep up our shield. We need to support our own inner peace. Click here to learn more about putting up your shield.
May these insights support your path.

I have never liked debating – even if I see the other side of things. But once negative energy enters the picture I step away. If I cannot step away, I shut down. Become a picture of neutrality. It has never been worth my time or effort to try and “convince” someone of something. It matters not to me if they don’t get it.

Yes, I agree with, “once negative energy enters the picture I step away.” I realize it’s all about if the other person wants to hear you. If they are so rigid, then I move on.
Blessings,
Moonwater
