Alisha made so many rules about what other people should do that she doesn’t have any friends.
She was upset that Sarah didn’t call back.
Alisha thought that Mark was “too cheap” when he preferred to get burritos.
She thought that Marcia was arrogant, always talking about “big ideas.”
Alisha was blinded to Goddess’s Law.
“For My law is love unto all beings. Keep pure your highest ideals.”
— The Goddess speaking in The Charge of the Goddess (as written by Doreen Valiente)
I have three insights for you.
1. Don’t blind yourself to the lesson.
Goddess provides lessons so that you grow.
I have noticed that Goddess keeps bringing the lesson back to you over and over. The experience gets more and more intense — until you feel Goddess-Smacked.
The easy way to blind yourself is to hold onto old ideas. It’s being rigid. It’s not letting in new experiences and possibilities.
Alisha’s old ideas were that everyone must conform to her way of doing things.
On the other hand, I have a particular friend who just does not call back. So I call her when I can. We have a good time when we’re talking together.
2. To get the lesson, listen within.
Some lessons are about finding your own truth. If you devote too much time to worrying about others’ judgments, you can miss out on the beautiful experiences of life.
Listen within.
Are you being invited to let go of old rules?
Goddess invites you to express compassion.
Here’s a classic idea: “You can’t give what you don’t have.”
If you have no compassion for yourself, you likely cannot show compassion to others.
Pause.
Be kind to yourself.
Make space to be kind to others.
3. Don’t resist the Goddess’s Law
We return to Goddess’s Law:
“For My law is love unto all beings. Keep pure your highest ideals.”
— The Goddess speaking in The Charge of the Goddess (as written by Doreen Valiente)
All beings does not just mean people. We’re talking about animals and even plants. Cutting down rainforests is a bad idea, for example.
And what about “keep pure your highest ideals”?
Perhaps, we can have ideals of…
- Compassion
- Empathy
- Kindness
- Trustworthiness
- Persistence
What ideals mean a lot to you?
May these insights support your path.
Blessed Be,
Moonwater

I hear you. I find this quote helpful:
“No person is your friend (or kin) who demands your silence, or denies your right to grow and be perceived as fully blossomed as you were intended. Or who belittles in any fashion the gifts you labor so to bring into the world.” ― Alice Walker
