Are They an Idiot or Semi-Idiot? (A Witch’s Perspective)

“Oh, no! Did you see that? What an Idiot!” I said, driving, after ducking my car out of the way of an idiot-driver.

“I’m venting,” I said to my husband.

Later, I reflected on this.

Scott Cunningham wrote: “The magic begins in you … Words and actions are used as focal points or keys to unlock the power that we all possess.”

Here are two insights.

1. Carefully choose your venting and take a look at your perceptions

When, in frustration, I called another driver “an idiot,”  I was venting. But was that all I was doing?

Upon reflection, I realize that I judged that person based on one action.

What if that person was a kind teacher, who was rushing to the hospital to visit her brother, who … ironically … was injured in a traffic accident?

It is possible that perceiving one as surrounded by idiots can cause trouble.

Our words are a form of magic.

Venting for five minutes is not driving our friends nuts by complaining for two hours.

    Do you vent?
Are you judging people and feeling bad as a result?

    2. Ask Goddess to Help You Shift During Your Day

Here is a prayer you can use:

    Goddess,
Help me shift from judgment to compassion.
Let me see the value in the other person,
Even if I don’t see it now.
Let me breathe in and out
So my peace stays all day.
    So Mote It Be.

Let these insights support your path.

    Blessed Be,
    Moonwater

How Witches Get What They Really Need

Do you really need something? I don’t mean want; I mean need. This happens often for many of us. What is the difference?

A Want is something that you desire, but if it came right down to it, you could live without it. For example, I want a vacation in Scotland. Do I need it? No.

A Need is something we can’t live without.

Do you or a friend need a car? Some of us live in a city with a good public transportation system—mostly on time and with good coverage. Other people live in a rural area and having a vehicle is simply a necessity. With a vehicle, you can get to the doctor or your job.

Obtain a Car (or something else) Spell

    What you will need:

    • Dragons Blood Ink
    • Quill
    • Cauldron
    • Bay Leaf
    • A Strip of Virgin Paper
    • Dragon’s Blood Essential Oil
    • Red chime candle
    • Dragon’s Blood Oil

    When: Waxing or full moon.

    Cast Circle

Bless and consecrate all your materials. Make a list of what you want. Here’s an example: “I want a car that I can afford, that has low mileage, gets good mileage per gallon, has the color I prefer …”

Write down your list with the quill and ink. Write the word “new-to-me car” or “new car” (if you desire a brand-new car) down on the bay leaf.

Fold your list around the bay leaf and drip one drop of wax from the red candle to seal it. Drip three drops of dragon’s blood essential oil on the bundle and say:

    Little bundle of mine,
Listen up because it is time.
Draw for me a ____, quick and neat.
Keep me free from all deceit.
Sacred smoke now fills the air,
To the Gods to bring my care.
For this or better, as I so Will,
    So Mote It Be!

Be sure the bundle burns to ashes—in the cauldron.

    Cakes and wine ceremony

    Close circle

May you get what you need.

    Blessed Be,
    Moonwater

The Wiccan’s Salve In A Car Accident

A bright cheery day—I didn’t know what shadow would come my way.

I brought the family car to a stop at a red light. I glanced at my Dad. He was in good spirits. We just completed getting the car washed. We were homeward bound.

My car was in one of two left-turn lanes. To my right was a sedan car also preparing to turn left. The light signaled “green” for me to execute the left turn.

The sedan cuts off our car, making an illegal U-turn.

I brought the car to a gradual stop, giving ample time for the car behind me to respond to the situation.

CRUNCH–the car behind me rear-ended our car.

    My neck snapped back.

All that I could do was think of the Gods. I prayed to the Gods that the outcome of this accident would not be as extreme as I thought it was.

I said something like: “Lord and Lady, may this not be as bad as it seems.”

I’m grateful to note that my father was not injured. Considering that my neck injury was significant, that was great news. Apparently, the headrest was set at just the right level to help him. Mine, on the other hand, doesn’t touch the back of my head so I got a serious case of whiplash.

I’m healing. But our car still needs work.

When unexpected trouble arrives, remember the God and Goddess are here to support you in times of need.

    Blessed Be,
    Moonwater

I don’t generally write reviews on books I’ve read…but this time i feel lead to. This book spoke volumes to me, as if the author knew exactly where I’m coming from and what I’m struggling with. It’s not often a book can make me cry, but this one did by making me see the many blocks I’ve put up in my life. I knew they were there, but I’ve gotten skilled at pretending they’re not. Thank you for helping me see I’m not some freak because of circumstances throughout my life that have caused the blocks, and that i need to stop hiding from or burying them and face them one step at a time. – Crystal Sparks

    Squat the Parking Goddess

    Car in parting spot

Need To Find a Parking Spot?

All hale the Goddess Squat! Please tell me you know Squat. If you don’t know Squat, you should.

Squat is the Parking Goddess. She gives you parking spaces to park in. I love Squat. I always ask for her help when I can’t find a parking space. She is obviously is a modern goddess. When I ask Squat for a space, 90% of the time she finds me one.

How do you ask Squat for help? Recite this little chant:

    Squat, Squat,

    Find me a spot!

I have done this and I kid you not, I don’t even finish the chant and someone pulls out of a space right in front of me! I immediately say with gratitude: “Thank you, Squat!”

After the day is done, and Squat has given me parking space(s), I go home and light a candle for her to thank her for her help. So invite her to help you. Now you can’t say you don’t know Squat!

    Blessed be,

    Blossom as the Real You

    Blossom as the Real You

    Blossom into the New You

Starting Wicca is like cleaning a dirty car for the first time. Before I left for a trip I decided to get my car washed. Why? My car was “the dirt clog on wheels.”

Though it’s supposed to be white, my car remained a splotchy palomino gray, for most of its existence.

So at the car wash center, I lined my vehicle with the others and left the keys in the car for the attendant. I sat down in the waiting area and watched car after car coming out of the other end of the giant cleaning machine.

I was sitting there for a while. Vehicles emerged from the cleaning machine, one after another. Soon I’m thinking, “Where’s my car?!” I recognized the car that had been in line in front of my car. But then, it took me a moment to realize that the gleaming white car behind it was actually my car!

This, believe it or not, is like the beginning of your practice of Wicca. Throughout your life you collect “dirt.” This can be in the form of unhelpful thoughts from people who think they know what’s best for you. This degrading process can lead to bad self-esteem. You might even doubt your worthiness in the face of deity and others. “How can I be loved if I do “X?”

All this buildup up of  degrading thoughts is like the buildup of dirt on my car. Soon you cannot even recognize the goodness and value you began life with.

Here are some examples of degrading thoughts:

“God won’t love me if I don’t pray three times a day”

    or

“God will punish me because I’m gay.”

    and

“I wont go to the promised land if I don’t go to [church, temple, the Mosque and so forth].”

All of these thoughts and other people’s “shoulds” are crap–like the bird crap on my car.

The world places unrealistic demands on us. “Nice girls don’t make trouble.” and “Men don’t cry.” This is simply “Crap!”

How does Wicca fit in? Well, all that crap you are carrying can be cleaned out and washed off. Just like my car.

Coming into Wicca, you carry the world’s crap upon you. The practice of Wicca with its car wash of meditation and self discovery will help you rid yourself of the unwanted grunge the world places on you.

When we practice our meditation techniques we get rid of the world’s “cling-ons.” And when that happens a whole new world opens up to you. Just like I didn’t recognize my car at first, your family and friends may not recognize the new you either.

Be aware too that many people do not like change. So when they see you happier they may give you resistance. This is normal. Don’t be discouraged if this happens.

Only you know what’s best for you. Eventually, some people will accept you. Others won’t. But the most important thing is for you to accept yourself and enjoy your new clean and bright experience of life.
