Does your Inner Critic ride shotgun? Do you wish your Inner Critic would just shut up and take the backseat for a change?
What if that’s not the whole story and not the good story?
Have you thought about what purpose your Inner Critic might serve?
Your Inner Critic is trying to keep you safe.
Let’s say someone has the thought to take a leap over a crevasse. The Inner Critic yells, “Noooooooo!”
Your Inner Critic is there to save you when you want to try stupid stuff.
However, the Inner Critic can assume too much power. You may want to take an appropriate risk—like giving a speech or asking for a promotion.
We, witches, even have new levels in our magickal life to explore.
So, how do we transform the Inner Critic into our Inner Helper?
Three Steps to Transform Your Inner Critic
When you thank your Inner Critic, you get it to quiet down. That’s good because you avoid the Inner Critic renewing its resistance and interference.
Perhaps, your Inner Critic says something limiting like: “You’re no good at learning new things. Do NOT even try to do a new spell.”
You could turn this around into a phrase like: “I’m learning new things. It is okay for me to try a new spell.”
Additionally, you can seek mentors to support you in your new learning.
Now, ask the Goddess to help you with your chosen new action. You can say, “Goddess help me do [positive action.]”
For example, you might say, “Goddess help me to learn this new spell.”
May you experience times when your Inner Critic transforms into your Inner Helper.
Blessed Be,
Moonwater

Ever find that your Inner Critic beats you up emotionally?
Some of us ask, “What’s an Inner Critic?” That’s the part of you that won’t give you a break. Instead of saying, “You made a mistake,” the Inner Critic says, “What the hell is the matter with you?”
The Inner Critic is a voice inside you that kicks you when you’re down.
Here is a Self-Affirmation Chant to help you exert your inner power.
Self-Affirmation Chant
Inner critic, listen up,
You don’t think I make the cut.
Listen now and listen good,
Just stop pushing “should.”
I silence you from ruining my day,
Now my Higher Spirit has the last say.
Confidence and good thoughts surround me,
As I so will, So Mote it Be.
May you guide your Inner Critic to quiet down.
Demote the Inner Critic to just a member of your committee of voices in your thoughts.
Invite the Gods to enhance the power of your Higher Spirit.
Blessed Be,
Moonwater

Do you beat yourself up emotionally? Perhaps, you’ve heard of the Inner Critic.
I have an Inner Critic. She is loud and sometimes in charge. So many times, this Inner Critic not only whispers in my ear but screams at the top of her lungs.
Sometimes, she says, “You’re no good.” Other times she says “You’re too fat … and too stupid.” Too often, this Inner Critic flings me into an overwhelming hopeless feeling.
Maybe, you can relate to this?
One time, when I was feeling particularly down, one of my friends said, “I get it. You have clinical depression symptoms. I’m just wondering if you have some part of you that stands to the side. A part of you that is not caught up in self-hatred. Do you have an … Inner Nurturer?”
What about an Inner Nurturer?
Before that moment, I had never heard this idea, Inner Nurturer. Just imagine, a part of yourself who is on your side. Your Inner Nurturer holds your hand through the tough times.
Maybe, my Inner Nurturer is mirroring what the Goddess would say to me.*
I was intrigued by this Inner Nurturer idea. So, I asked my friend to continue. He said, “It could be like this: Your Inner Critic is like a cup of inky water. And, the Inner Nurturer helps you by filling the inky-water cup with clean spring water. Over time, the ink runs over the edge of the cup, and you’re left with the clean spring water.”
How Can We Fill Up with “Clean, Spring Water”?
I thought about my friend’s story and realized the Inner Nurturer is the Goddess and God.
We reach the God and Goddess through meditation, ritual, and prayer.
Many times, I have let the Inner Critic run my mind. The solution is for me to connect with the God and Goddess more often. More times for meditation, ritual, and prayer. Then, I can banish the Inner Critic—even for a short time.
May these ideas support you on your journey.
Blessed Be,
Moonwater
