A reader asked me this question: “What are the most important things that everyone else can learn from Wiccans?”
Here are Five Wisdom-Points Wiccans Can Share with Others:
1) We value nature and the Earth as sacred.
Nature, as Wiccans see it, is a manifestation of Deity. Each flower and blade of grass has Deity inside them. All animals and people have the spirit of Deity within them. With this recognition, Wiccans view nature as sacred.
2) We recognize that men and women are equals.
In Wicca, no gender is considered better or greater than another one. Women, in Wicca, hold clergy status. It’s important to note that men are not looked down upon either. One of my friends said that he saw a website that noted how Wicca balances the polarities—the Goddess and the God.
3) We don’t believe in Hell.
A number of Christian sects hold a belief in Hell. Wiccans note that they do not believe in the Christian Hell nor the “Christian Devil (evil one).”
(It’s a hard to send someone to Hell when they don’t believe in it. It’s like telling a Christian to “Go to Mordor!”)
When we enter a conversation about the belief in “sin,” a number of details arise.
It’s reported that numerous Christian sects believe that one can sin and therefore deserve to be placed in Christian Hell for eternity. Christian Hell is thought to be a place of eternal pain and suffering.
Thank goodness, Wiccan do not subscribe to such beliefs!
Wiccans do focus on The Three Times Law or Law of Three that guides our actions. The idea is: What you place into the universe returns to you three-fold. It seems smart to send out loving energy—and to receive three times the loving energy in return.
Wiccans also emphasize The Wiccan Rede: Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill, An it harm none do what ye will. Some think of the Rede as a law, but in fact, Rede means advice or counsel. What does this mean? It means that Wiccans do things that honor life. However, if one finds a deadly, venomous snake in the baby’s room, a Wiccan might elect to send the snake to the Gods! The point is Wiccans are not pacifists. Wiccans do believe in self-defense.
4) We are responsible for our own actions.
When we make a choice whether good or bane, we own up to the consequences. (Wiccans do not say anything like “The devil made me do it.”) We don’t blame others for our mistakes. The outcomes of our choices are ours to reap. Therefore, Wiccans strive to only do good actions. Doing bad actions leads to suffering the bad whiplash of negative energy. Wiccans avoid that!
5) We are part of the God and Goddess; we are not separate from Deity.
Wiccans know that we are part of the God and Goddess. Women and men have both a feminine/Goddess side and a masculine/God side. We are never alone for the Gods are within us and around us at all times.
May these Wiccan insights be helpful to you.
Blessed Be,
