“I’m ready to give up,” Kerri said. “You have no idea how many awful dates I’ve been on.”
I had a pretty good guess because I heard my friend tell me about the bad ones.
I realize that it can be tough to find the right life partner. I endured going through a divorce.
Over the years, I’ve learned to be quite specific about building a good relationship. My sweetheart and I are together for nearly 22 years.
I have three insights for you.
- Get clearer on what’s necessary to build a life together.
About eight years ago my sweetheart had a conversation with a friend. My sweetheart shared this idea: “In a life partner look for two things: Someone who is kind and flexible.”
What do you want in a relationship?
Here is an exercise you can do.
On a sheet of paper, create two columns by drawing a line in the middle.
On the left, write the heading of Desired. On the right, write Undesired.
Now write two lists.
Kind Frustrates easily
I have a question: “Is this a grape or a watermelon?” When I compare the items on the two lists, I choose which label per item. The Grape and Watermelon Scale is about the importance of one thing over another. The watermelon is big and important. The grape is of little importance.
Funny – g Mean – w
Flexible – w Rigid – w
Kind – w Frustrates easily – w
Respectful – w
Attractive – g
Now you can see which items on the list are most important to you.
- Embody What You Hope to Find in Your Life Partner.
When looking for a life partner, it is good to embody the traits you are looking for. Why? It’s because “like attracts like.” Kind people attract each other. Funny people find each other enjoyable … and so on. I realize that opposites can attract. Still, I suggest embodying your values.
- Invite the Goddess and God to Shine on Your Path for Lifelong Love.
You can ask the Goddess and the God to help you find true love.
