How Witches Connect with the Meaning of Life and Newfound Happiness

“I struggle so hard. But I feel empty,” Freda, an acquaintance, said. The ensuing conversation invited me to look deeper into my own struggles.

Here are three insights

  1. Observe the relationships in your life.

“Relationship itself gives meaning to life.” – Jon Kabat-Zinn

Who are the people who mean the most to you in this world?

How do you feel about your relationships with them? I’ve realized that just devoting a little time to listen to a family member or friend creates meaning for us. Listening creates trust. And trust uplifts the relationship.

I’ve also learned that listening is hard work. I need to hold back and let the person finish what they need to say. I also need to say back what I heard so that they know that I understand what they feel and experience. Are you listening to your family and friends?

  1. Elevate your relationship with the God and Goddess.

Do you talk with the Gods often? Do you thank Them for the blessings of your life? The Gods stand by and wait for your invitation to interact with Them. They want you to feel good and to create happy outcomes in your life.

They have so much to teach us. It also helps for us to watch for signs. For example, Jesse had a choice of two previously owned cars. His small budget meant that he needed to make the right choice. He asked the God and Goddess to give him a sign. He asked to see a horse galloping if his first choice of a car was the best one. Now this would be an unusual because he lived in the city. Soon, Jesse walked down a street and saw a figurine of a galloping horse in a store window. To Jesse, this was a sign from the Gods.

  1. Devote yourself to three essential parts of a relationship: Time, Attention, and Ritual.

Every day my sweetheart massages my feet for five minutes. Often this happens just before I go to sleep. It’s a ritual with us. It’s one of the many ways that I know that he cares about me and loves me.

What rituals do you have with your own relationships?

What rituals do you have with your relationships with the Gods? I talk to the God and Goddess just about every day. On the days I miss a conversation, I really see a difference in how strong my bond is with Them.

Any relationship, even one with the Gods, needs time and attention. Do you have a daily ritual for connecting with the God and Goddess?

How Witches Expand Their Awareness of What is Possible-Ep. 160

How Witches Calm Themselves in Turbulent Times

“Two times this week, I woke up with my heart racing,” my friend, Amanda, said.

We had a thoughtful conversation. Amanda shared with me her process of deep breathing and placing her hand on her heart.

I was impressed with how she could help herself calm down.

Here are three insights.

  1. Avoid “observe the breath” in favor of “being with your breath.”

Many meditation instructors suggest that one “observe the breath.” That places you outside of the process.

Observing the breath can get you stuck in your rational mind. You become separate from your breath. You can become a critic of your own breathing. You may think it is not slow enough or that your heart rate is not coming down fast enough.

Instead, be gentle. Shift to the idea of being with your breath. Now, you are one with your breath. Be with your breath as you deeply inhale. Stay with your breath as you extend your exhalation. Gently. Incrementally. Do not push. Allow the shift.

  1. Hold a safe space for whatever feeling you’re experiencing.

The idea of being with your breath is not about suppressing a negative emotion. The good news is by gently shifting how you breathe and focus on a positive idea, you can make a shift. Placing her hand over her heart, Amanda uses the idea of I am safe, and Goddess loves me.

Amanda repeats this affirmation while she does deep breathing—as many times as is necessary. She doesn’t push herself. She allows the shift in experience to happen naturally.

  1. Experience a Candle Lighting and Breathing Ritual.

As you safely do a candle lighting ritual, consider using this chant. Breathe slowly and deeply.

Candle Lighting and Deep Breathing Chant

In your mind, repeat these words with each breathing cycle.

(breathe in) Goddess surrounds me.
(breathe out) With all Her Love.
(breathe in) The God protects me.
(breathe out) I am safe.
So Mote It Be.

You can repeat the above chant as many times as you find helpful.

How Witches Benefit from a Surprising Aspect of Fear – Ep. 159

How Witches Keep Moving Forward on Dark Days

“I feel exhausted,” my friend, Susan, said.
“Any way I can help?” I asked.
“I’m not sure. I continue to tell myself, ‘Just put one foot in front of the other,’” she said.
Later, I reflected on the idea that on some “dark days,” we need to just keep moving.

Here are three insights.

  1. Keep moving forward slowly and steadily.

Have you noticed on some days it takes every bit of energy that you have just to keep moving forward? You’d like to get more done. You also would like to feel better. But some dark days require us to only endure. To endure we keep taking steps forward. Let’s realize that the God and Goddess are with us, and They see the whole picture. On some dark days just moving forward slowly and steadily is a heroic act. The God and Goddess give us full credit for all our good intentions and our moving forward slowly and steadily.

  1. Let go of your baggage.

Some time ago, I was working on a flyer. I really wanted to accomplish a certain shading for part of it. Somehow the application was just not working. At that moment I just really wanted to perfect this. But then I remembered something that a spiritual elder had brought to my attention. The idea was: Nonattachment means holding preferences and not demands. So, this moment was an opportunity for me to let go of my baggage. It was a time for me to let go of a demand on myself to do “perfect work.”

My feeling had been that my work was a reflection of my identity. If the work was imperfect, then there was something wrong with me. But then I realized if the flyer works well enough, and I don’t attach it to my identity, then I can experience a form of freedom. When you let go of your baggage, it’s possible for you to experience some freedom.

  1. Hear different layers of what the Goddess is saying.

At one point, I saw these two phrases from The Charge of the Goddess to be in opposition to each other.

1. “Keep pure your highest ideal; strive ever toward it; let naught stop you or turn you aside.”

2. “I am the Gracious Goddess, who gives the gift of joy unto the heart. Upon earth, I give the knowledge of the spirit eternal…”

At first glance, I saw the first phrase to be supporting the idea of perfectionism. Then, I saw the second phrase as something that is comforting. Eventually, I realized that both ideas can come together. It does not have to be this one or that one.

To combine the ideas, the meaning could be:

Keep moving forward. Do not give up. And all along the way, the Gracious Goddess will support you and give you the gift of joy unto your heart. Her comfort includes that you are more than this current project or work. You are the spirit eternal. And that’s what is important.

How Witches Escape the Habit of Fitting In – Ep. 158

How Witches Rise from the Valley of Pain

Have you had a “near life” experience? No, I’m not talking about a near death experience. I’m talking about actually getting a glimpse of what your life is really about. Do you relate to this?

I have found that some of the most beautiful parts of life arise during some of the most difficult transitions in life.

Here are three insights.

1. Many lessons rise from the Valley of Pain.

Are you going through a tough time in life? Have you had any moments when a friend or a family member has done something kind, and you felt supported?

I’ve learned that many times when I felt at my lowest, there was a moment when someone did a kind gesture for me. Gratitude flowed throughout my body. In that moment, I actually felt connected to the universe, to the friend, and to the God and Goddess.

2. Your soul wants to grow.

In a conversation, a spiritual elder said, “We long for comfort, but the Soul wants learning.”

In times of discomfort, we often discover that we’re stronger than we ever imagined.

Sometimes, the lesson is to be patient or to let go. Maybe, we’re called to be the kinder and stronger person in the situation.

The lesson may be to stand up for yourself if some bully (even a family member) tries to make you conform to their picture of life.

These tough times can be easier to endure if you incorporate prayer to the God and Goddess.

A prayer to the Gods

Gods, give me strength in this adversity.
May my mind and heart be open to compassion.
May my actions be of compassion.
So Mote It Be.

3. The Gods will help you through the Valley of Pain.

The Gods are there for you. As you go through the Valley of Pain, They want to assist you as much as possible.

I look on life as having a series of chapters. Some chapters are when you’re stuck in the shadow, in the Valley of Pain. No one wants to stay stuck in pain. However, some of us prefer the known to the unknown. Some people seem to say, “It hurts, but at least I know what to expect.”

The gracious Goddess knows that at times you’re going to need to step forward in faith.

Hold to the faith that the Goddess wants the best for you. Know that She will provide you comfort. You’ll feel Her influence in a friend’s kind voice or simple gesture of support for you.

Sometimes, the only way out is through the Valley of Pain. The good news is: If you just keep putting one foot in front of the other, eventually you rise out of the valley. Then, you see new choices and new opportunities as you ascend the mountain.

Long ago Winston Churchill said, “If you’re going through hell, keep going.” You just need to keep moving forward. Stand up, avoid sitting and wallowing in the Valley of Pain. Avoid remaining stuck in the pain. Keep moving forward to new opportunities for growth.

How Witches Break Patterns that Hold Them Back

Are you looking to have the right pattern to do the right spell or right ritual? We, witches, often want something new and better in our lives. But the problem is: Even if you do put something new into your life, it may not work. You may need to clear something that is blocking your way. You may need to break a pattern.

Here are three insights.

  1. Identify what pattern is giving you a bad outcome.

Is there something in your life that bothers you at this time? Could you be doing a certain behavior that gives you the same result?

Anna, a friend, keeps having the same conversation with a parent.

If she keeps to the pattern, nothing changes.

The idea is to identify what pattern is giving you the bad outcome.

In Anna’s situation, her mother insults her, and she just endures it.

She decides to just speak calmly and say, “Mom, that’s insulting me. And it bothers me. If this keeps going, I’ll need step off this phone call.”

Anna’s new behavior does not change her mother.

But it removes the negative outcome of Anna feeling badly about her taking abuse. Anna’s new pattern is to set boundaries.

What is going on in your life? Look for a pattern and discern whether your outcome is what you want. If it isn’t, you need to find a different way of achieving your goal.

If you are looking to improve your use of magic, you’ll need to discover your true desire.

  1. Discover your hidden true desire in the situation.

Have you ever wondered why you may not be getting what you want? Perhaps, you have been focused on something that is not your true desire.

We ask the Universe and the God and Goddess to aid us in our pursuits. But the Gods know what we really need. It may not be the fancy car or a large home. The God and Goddess know us best. Yes, They want us to have what we desire.

One process is to “Drill Down.”

Here is an example:

Susan says, “I want more money.”
With more money, what do you get?
“Better clothes.”
With better clothes, what do you get?
“People will treat me better.”
When people treat you better, what do you get?


“I get to relax and feel better about myself,” Susan said.

So, Susan really wants to relax and feel better about herself. That is her hidden true desire.

Can Susan feel better about herself without “better clothes”? This question is part of her real path.

  1. Invite the Gods to help you uncover the positive energy to move forward.

If you are not getting what you want, slow down. Reconsider your thoughts. Consult the God and Goddess. Ask Them to uncover what is best for you and to create a positive flow of energy to move forward.

Your first guess may be that you want an expensive car.

In meditation, you might have an intuitive thought that increasing your savings is an important long-term option. Perhaps, that intuitive thought is a gift from the Gods.

The Gods invite us to think things all the way through.

If you need help, ask the Gods to clear your mind and create positive energy so you can manifest an appropriate desire.

When meditating, you may want to express this chant.

Lord of the Sky and Lady of the Moon,
Tailor my wishes to manifest soon.
Guide my thoughts to my needs,
Help me create good energy seeds.
This I ask that you guide me right,
Give me clear and positive sight.
So Mote it Be.
