How Witches Interpret Inconsistencies In Tarot and Other Divination Practices Ep. 88

“It hurts too much. If I just had the right spiritual thoughts, couldn’t I just avoid this pain?” my friend, John, asked.
“I hear you. You’re hurting bad. I want to skip pain, too. But I learned about something called a spiritual bypass,” I replied.
Recently, I came across this quote:
“Spiritual bypass shields us from the truth. It disconnects us from our feelings and helps us avoid the big picture. It is more about checking out than checking in.” – Ingrid Clayton, psychologist
I realize that, many times, I’d like to avoid feeling pain. But if I try to just shift to the “higher point of view,” I may be denying something real … that I have felt a loss and the pain is something I just need to experience.
For example, I lost Steve, a dear friend who passed away. I didn’t sit in the grief. I tried to shift to thinking he was in a better place and that was it. But I never truly dealt with the feelings of loss. That is, until I shifted back to my grief and felt it fully and explored what was going on with my feelings. I honored the pain of the loss. In this way, I processed it in a healthy way.
I have three insights about grief, loss and how to grow.
1.Say something aloud about your feelings.
I have learned that talking to a friend and saying aloud how I feel about something is truly healing. It helps take the burden off my back. If you are the friend, just listen. You don’t have to fix it.
2.Ask the Gods for clarity
Doing meditation can help, too. By going into meditation, you can ask the Gods to help you understand the reasons and situations that led to the loss. You can ask for healing. The Gods are great listeners.
“There is no coming to consciousness without pain. People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own Soul.” – Carl Jung
It is true that in witchcraft we strive to know one’s self.
Knowing yourself is the true focus of the Craft. Knowing how you deal with loss can be a big step to understanding you.
3.Express the Feel It and Move Forward Prayer
Here is a prayer to help.
The Feel It and Move Forward Prayer
Lord and Lady help me dig deep.
Light the way to all that I seek.
My feelings now I do give space,
To feel it all and weigh my case.
Give me light on my path to peace,
To help me move on in one piece.
Stitch by stitch mend my broken heart.
With Your support, I make my start
As I So Will, So Mote It Be.
May this prayer help you heal and continue growing on your journey.
Blessed Be,
Moonwater

How Witches Sense Energy to Enrich Their Lives Ep. 87

“Oh, Jessica, you’re so cynical,” my friend, Amy, said.
“I’m not cynical. I’m skeptical,” Jessica, my other friend, replied.
The difference between cynical and skeptical is important.
To me, cynical has a negative connotation. It’s like you won’t give an idea some true consideration. You have already made up your mind about the idea. On the other hand, skeptical is: You are willing to listen to the idea and more information. You really think about it. You are willing to bring in more evidence. I’ve noticed that some people take a certain cynical approach that shuts down the conversation.
I’m concerned that cynical can lead to a “negative self-fulfilling prophesy.” For example, Susan, as a young child, was told that she was fat. Even though she was quite thin. She totally believed that she was fat. She became cynical. She wouldn’t even let in the idea that she might be an appropriate weight. Later in life, she gained a lot of weight. Having a habitual cynical approach, Susan didn’t even try to change her habits because she already believed she was a lost cause.
This reminds me of the Thirteenth Principle of The Thirteen Principles of Wiccan Belief.
We believe that we should seek within Nature that which is contributory to our health and well-being.” The Thirteenth Principle of The Thirteen Principles of Wiccan Belief, assembled by The American Council of Witches
Now, in the present, Susan has a new choice. She can listen to the Gods. Unfortunately, listening to cruel human beings during her youth created a sour, cynical approach in Susan.
Let’s remember that whatever happened in the past is like an early chapter in a book. Something new and better can happen in your current, new chapter of life.
Now, Susan can listen to the Gods. She can focus on natural foods that the Gods provide. She can shift her choices about junk food. She can look to the natural world (echoing The Thirteenth Principle of Wiccan Belief) for healing. She can ask the God and Goddess for guidance. This is something I discuss in my online course Goddess Style Weight Loss.
Looking at the example above, we can see how a cynical mind can cause a lot of suffering.
I invite you to consider dropping cynical in favor of skeptical. Skeptical can be valuable for us to check out the data and evidence. We will also need to try new things and make decisions based on our new experiences.
I’ve noticed that taking a cynical approach can, at times, lead to a closed mind. Having a closed mind can cause much suffering and fear. You close off any new data when you are cynical. In effect, this stops your growth as a being and an individual.
You are here to learn. Assess if you’re being cynical or skeptical.
So, remember to listen to Nature—“the teacher” of our class. Look to Nature and learn.
May these insights support your journey.
Blessed Be,
Moonwater

Witches Know the Big Relief, About Death and the Afterlife Ep. 86

Have you longed for feeling better in your daily life?
You have probably noticed how so many people seem to have a short fuse right now during the unrest taking place throughout the world.
Witches can rise above the pain and strife of the mundane world.
We believe in the affirmation and fulfillment of life in a continuation of evolution and development of consciousness, that gives meaning to the Universe we know, and our personal role within it.” The 9th Principle of the 13 Principles of Wiccan Belief as assembled by the American Council of Witches
I realized that to support the development of consciousness in ourselves we must stand guard at the door of our mind.
This phrase “Stand guard at the door of your mind” was mentioned by a friend of mine. The phrase is ascribed to a number of people.
Two Things to Guard Against – to Keep Out of Your Mind
Fear can twist your thoughts. It can make you do things you would not normally do. You’ve probably noticed that fear can turn to anger, and a person can lash out with harsh words.
I’ve noticed that fear can twist and turn into greed. A person running scared might lash out and try to hoard things and people.
What is the answer to fear? Love. I’ll share more about that soon.
Where does hate come from?
“Hatred is driven by two key emotions of love and aggression: One, love for the in-group—the group that is favored; and two, aggression for the out-group—the group that has been deemed as being different, dangerous, and a threat to the in-group.” Patrick Wanis, a behavioral researcher
Again, the answer is Love. The Gods remind us that we are all Their children. The Gods are the Creators of everything.
This thought rose up for me: “We live in a divine world. Hate has no place here.”
Another thought arose: “It is appropriate to protect oneself. But I do not have to hate in order to protect myself. I can do what is necessary for safety. I do not have to put myself into a negative spiral of judgmental thoughts and negative energy.”
I realize that lower consciousness includes reflexively striking back—and returning negativity for negativity.
Love and a Process to Support the Development of Consciousness
We need to support bringing love into our lives
Love operates at a higher frequency than hate. Love helps us grow out of that lower state of being.
I feel that we, too often, put up walls to our happiness and to love.
So, how do we bring these walls down? With the following ritual.
Being at a higher frequency helps you think your way through with compassion.
Bringing Down the Walls Ritual
What you will need:
Cast on a waning moon.
To start:
Sit and meditate on what you are about to do: Break your walls down and raise yourself to a higher vibration of love.
Once you have your mind fixed on your task begin by lighting the reversal candle and say:
Walls, walls crumble down,
Walls, walls to the ground.
Hate destroyed and fear abated,
Making room to be elated.
Love is the only law I know,
Love surrounds me with great flow.
As I so Will, so Mote it Be.
Sit and meditate on what you have accomplished. Feel the flow of the Gods’ love surround you. Feel the peace now within you.
May these insights and this ritual support you on your journey.
Blessed Be,
Moonwater

How Witches Overcome “I’m Not Important” Ep. 85

What is most important to you?
Have you, like me, been shaken up by the coronavirus and the unrest around the world?
Every day, I ask myself, “What is most important?”
Recently, a friend told me about his distinction between values and virtues.
I understand a value as something that is important. For example, I value my relationship with my Gods. I value my sweetheart.
Then, we talk about virtues. I want to demonstrate the virtue of patience toward my husband.
I strive to be of service—so I’m focusing on the virtue of service.
Recently, I was reading the 13 Principles of Wiccan Belief as assembled by the American Council of Witches.
We recognize both outer and inner, or psychological, worlds—sometimes known as the Spiritual World, the Collective Unconscious, Inner Planes, etc.—and we see in the interaction of these two dimensions the basis for paranormal phenomena and magickal exercises. We neglect neither dimension for the other, seeing both as necessary for our fulfillment. – The Fifth Principle of the 13 Principles of Wiccan Belief from the American Council of Witches
So, let’s look at this Fifth Principle in the light of values annd virtues. Witches value the spiritual plane, mundane plane, and magick.
This phrase “We neglect neither dimension for the other, seeing both as necessary for our fulfillment” points toward a virtue. I see that virtue as balance.
What Does This Mean for the Everyday Life of a Witch?
As witches, we can strive for balance with the spiritual and mundane sides of life. We walk between the worlds, and so, we have the power to manifest our desires. We have tools that other spiritual paths do not. We have spells, magickal elementals, and the Gods who help us.
Some spiritual paths appear to neglect the mundane or earthly side of life.
On the other hand, witches understand nature in its fundamental parts and how such parts work together. This helps us fulfill our desires and needs.
The Path of a Meaningful and Happy Life
Because of all the stress from the coronavirus and unrest in the world, I look to center myself and to create balance in my own life. A focus on both values and virtues gives me guidance on how to lead my own day.
I work with these questions:
May these insights support your journey.

How Witches Are Free From Guilt and Shame Ep. 84

“I need to get the words just right for the spell—yes?” Jessica, a new acquaintance, asked me.
I replied that precision with words will help her accomplish her goal with the spell.
You probably agree that words are important.
I’ve noticed that Wiccans pay close attention to the words “supernatural” and “natural.”
An important point is made in the 3rd Principle of The 13 Principles of Wiccan Belief as assembled by the American Council of Witches:
We acknowledge a depth of power far greater than that is apparent to the average person. Because it is far greater than ordinary it is sometimes called “supernatural”, but we see it as lying within that which is naturally potential to all. – 3rd Principle of The 13 Principles of Wiccan Belief
Wiccans pay attention to the meaning of “supernatural.” They do not feel that magick and spellwork are “supernatural.”
Here is another example of how a definition is important. Recently, Ms. Kennedy Mitchum, 22 and a recent college graduate in Iowa, wrote to the editors at Merriam-Webster to propose that their dictionary reference to “racism” be revised to reflect how systemic racism is in society. The editors have agreed to revise the definition, which had not been changed in decades.
Alex Chambers, an editor at the dictionary, replied and wrote, “…we have concluded that omitting any mention of the systemic aspects of racism promotes a certain viewpoint in itself. … It also does a disservice to readers of all races.”
We, witches, know that words have power. Our words can hurt or heal. It depends on how we use them.
Our words can combine for creating or observing meaning. Our words can be part of a solution.
