Wiccans and Psychic and Spiritual Protection?

A reader asked me: What are some of the quickest, easiest ways for psychic & spiritual protection?

I’ll share three different methods you can use to protect yourself. (There are many possible methods of protection.)

Protection Method #1: Use a Sigil

Sigils are magickal symbols that hold an intention. You create a sigil by using the following simple process. First, write out your desire on a scratch piece of paper; you can use a single word or a phrase.

Examples of Phrases Related to Protection:

· Protect me through the night

· Protect me from energy vampires

To keep this example simple and clear, I’ll just use the word “success.” Cross off all of the repeated letters in Success. You end up with S, U, C, and E. (You want only one of each letter that appears in the word.) Next, scramble the letters, getting S, E, U, and C (for example). Now comes the fun part: Combine the letters together in an image.

Protection Method #2: Wear a Protection Necklace

Wear a necklace of hematite and amethyst. The hematite grounds you, and the amethyst turns all energy into white light.

Protection Method #3: Take a Ritual Bath

Ritual bathing can be a great way to get rid of the nasties that may cling onto your aura. Bless and consecrate your soap and shampoo. Set these aside for use only during your ritual baths.

How to make a sachet with cleansing herbs for a bath:

Use a stocking or cotton cloth, and place inside selected cleansing herbs. The total amount of all herbs will be one tablespoon.

If you use a cotton cloth, gather the corners and tie them with a string. Make sure the sachet is closed and secure. This keeps the herbs from clogging your drain.

Place your sachet in the bath water then sprinkle in some sea salt and let steep for 5 or so minutes. Then enjoy.

May these three protection methods bring you comfort.

Blessed Be,
Moonwater

Real Comfort for Wiccans – Talking to the Gods

“I’ve got this lump in my breast,” I said to my husband. Shook up, he sat down in a chair. He’d been through the breast cancer journey with his mother. He had to hold her hand while she was having a lumpectomy under local anesthetic.

This was the beginning of my health-related journey.

My husband usually asks, “Would you consider doing ___?” But when he heard about the lump in my breast he said, “We need some other way of talking. I’m asking that you to do something other than ‘consider.’ Would you please take immediate action? Okay?”

I called at 7 AM the next morning to make an appointment. The staff took the situation seriously and set up my appointment at 2:30 pm that same day.

  • Communication with God and Goddess

As I drove to my appointment I prayed and asked the God and Goddess for Their input.

Suddenly I felt calm inside as They answered, “It’s not cancer.”

Still, the doctor examined me and said, “I don’t know what that mass is. Time for you to get your first mammogram.”

  • Communication with People

When I got home, I told my husband that I didn’t think it was anything and told him not to worry. I learned later that my comment provided him with no relief from his worries. He later said, “I would have appreciated if you had told me that you had communicated with the God and Goddess. Why? Because when you said, ‘I think’… I didn’t know what that was. Maybe you might have been in denial.”

Telling people you love what’s going on is important. I could have relieved my husband from much of his burden of worry by just letting him know what the God and Goddess told me.

Ultimately, I had both a mammogram and an ultrasound test.

The results? Benign cysts.

Phew!

Still, I’m invited by my doctor to continue monitoring the situation.

In summary, remember to make good efforts to communicate with both the Gods and your loved ones.

Blessed Be,
Moonwater

Use Fear as a Positive Source for Your Magick

“Fear can be a Source for magick-working?” my friend, Jeff, asked.

“Yes,” I replied.

“I don’t understand. I’ve heard that if you focus on what you fear too much, you’ll even attract what you fear,” Jeff said. His brows furrowed. It looked like he was making himself afraid by even voicing this thought.

What is fear?

It may seem to be too simple to ask this question. Sure, all of us feel fear sometimes. Still, let’s start here: the Merriam-Webster dictionary describes fear as: an unpleasant often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger.

Dealing with clinical depression, I find fear to be my everyday companion. I have fears about having enough income in the future, close relatives dying, and more.

I’ve learned that I need to do something to get out of the rut of fear.

How can we harness fear?

I’ve learned that fear can be useful. It’s like a warning light (on a pilot’s flight deck) that alerts me to danger.

We evolved to be predisposed to fear. Let’s face it: Those ancestors who saw a saber-toothed tiger, became afraid, and stayed away from it, survived to pass down their genes. Those of our ancestors who saw the saber-toothed tiger and said, “Nice kitty,” didn’t.

So, fear is hardwired into our DNA.

This is good to know. We can use this hardwiring to our advantage.

How?

Fear is like a sign that points to what you truly value. Say we have a fear of being alone. This fear of being alone may indicate that you value having friends and family close by.

I fear homelessness. This could indicate that I value comfort and stability.

Finding your fear sign will help you find your way to your true path. Whenever you have fear about something, ask yourself, “Is this my fear sign?”

To Make Fear a Positive Source of Your Magick …

If you know your fear sign, you can use it to work magick.

How?

In one of my workshops, I had the attendees do a Transform Fear Meditation.

The idea was to start with a physical object in your mind to represent the fear.

Then you imagine the physical object crumbling away like an outer shell to reveal what you value hidden inside.

You can use other forms of meditation.

The questions to use include: “What is fear trying to tell you?” and “What path are you to take?”

Look deep. Ask yourself, “What is the fear pointing to?”

For example, one could ask, “What are you afraid of?

    Public speaking.

What’s that fear pointing to?

“I’m afraid of forgetting my words.”

What’s that fear pointing to?

    I’m afraid of being embarrassed.

What’s that fear pointing to?

I’m afraid of feeling like a piece of garbage.

Turn this Around. What is the opposite of that fear?

I want to feel good in my heart. I want to feel that I matter and that I contribute something good to the world.

Now, you have a Powerful Intention to Use as a Source of Your Magick!

Next, you can do a Spell to Boost Your Self-Esteem.

Or you could light a candle and say,
Lord and Lady, guide me
To strengthen myself
So I feel good about what I’m doing.
Help me to contribute
Something good to this world.
So Mote It Be.

In summary, the idea is to avoid staying in the rut of fear.

Instead, use the fear to point you to a Positive Intention, that is, what you truly value.

Then, have your spellwork focus on what you truly value.

Blessed Be,
Moonwater

Wiccans and Hiding

Whether you’re in the “broom closet” or not, many of us hide in some ways.

Hiding? From what?

Hiding from ourselves –
Hiding from what we want –
Hiding from what hurts us –
Hiding from hoping.

Can you relate to this?

In this dark half of the year, many Wiccans find it a good time to do inner work.

“I am the Gracious Goddess, who gives the gift of joy unto the heart. Upon earth, I give the knowledge of the spirit eternal; and beyond death, I give peace, and freedom, and reunion with those who have gone before. Nor do I demand sacrifice, for behold I am the Mother of All Living, and my love is poured out upon the earth.” – from The Charge of the Goddess by Doreen Valiente

Did you notice this part? “Nor do I demand sacrifice.” Isn’t the fear of sacrifice part of why we hide? Have you noticed that we just don’t like to give up what we have? We’ll now look at different facets of our journey.

  • Hiding from ourselves

You might think, Why would I hide from myself?

Perhaps, you’re hiding from a specific part of yourself. Sometimes, we can fear our own power. We may subconsciously want to believe that we are small and vulnerable. That seems easier. How? We can blame our problems on others and surrounding circumstances. And we do not have to do anything new.

Let’s say that you let go of just playing small, what do you have? A responsibility.

Recently, my husband talked about his father’s habitual statement: “You make me mad.” My husband said, “My father just does not acknowledge that the recurring part of the equation is my father, and his often terrible behavior connected to his own anger.”

I thought about my husband’s observation. It reminds me that when we own a problem then we have the power. As soon as we can stop hiding from our greatness, we will succeed in our endeavors in the mundane and on the magickal plane, too.

I have written about blocks and held workshops on removing them. You may want to reflect on your own journey. What might be a block for you in your own life?

One time, I was out walking and these thoughts arose: Mostly we are afraid of change, in ourselves and in the world around us. We are afraid of losing ourselves.

We are also afraid of our darker self or Shadow Self, which can wreak havoc in our own life.

We, witches, delve deep into our subconscious and work with the Shadow Self to learn from it and embrace it.

The Shadow Self wants to stay powerful. In working with the Shadow Self, we can step into the driver’s seat of our life.

How do we work with the Shadow Self? Many of us learn to work well with the Shadow Self through a guided meditation led by an elder.

  • Hiding from what we want

Why would we hide from what we want? One word: Disappointment.

Have you been hit by the heart-searing pain of disappointment? Such pain certainly inspires many of us to give up on what we want.

To get what we want, many times, we must change, grow and stretch. Have you noticed that fear of change often rises up?

We hide our true power. Our power is great, and the fear of this power can be so strong that we hide our desires deep within ourselves.

Some of us may have “forgotten” what our heart wants. We may think we want change but our subconscious mind wants to stay the same. Why? Our subconscious mind wants to stay safe. Change can be scary to our subconscious mind because change and trying new things tosses us out of our comfort zone. Then we fall into the land of potential pain and disappointment. No outcome is certain. What is the easiest path? Staying the same.

  • Hiding from what hurts us

Doesn’t it make sense to hide from and get away from anything that causes us pain?

The tough truth is: Many times, pain helps us grow. Like growing pains. We need to grow and stretch. To learn our lessons in this incarnation, we must endure pain, sometimes.

Pain can serve as a teacher. As the toddler falls and skins her knee, she learns that something didn’t work. In fact, she might learn to steady herself by holding on the edge of the couch while she develops “her walking legs.”

Wiccans can serve themselves by observing what causes pain and then coming up with a plan for rituals, prayers to the God and Goddess, chants and/or spells.

Step forward. Observe your pain. Do not let pain and the fear of pain to shut you down. Instead, reach out to the God and Goddess. They stand at the ready to help you.

  • Hiding from hoping

Why would you hide from even hoping about something? Pain. Disappointment.

Hoping implies that we may lose what we truly desire. It gives us the unsettled feelings of possible loss.

I really have a hard time with this one. I don’t even want to hope for the fear of losing what I desire.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with my husband.

“Do you think you might look forward to that trip?” he asked.

“No. I can’t do it. What if it things don’t come together?” I replied.

Later, I realized that I did not want to look forward to something because I had already anticipated the possibility of losing it.

I really need to work on this. I don’t want to stall and get stuck in my life. I want to grow and move forward—spiritually and emotionally.

Can you relate to this?

Have you stopped hoping about things?

In summary, Wiccans, during this dark half of the year, can do some inner work.

Take a close look. Are you hiding from yourself, from what you want, and from what hurts you? Are you even hiding from hoping for anything to go well?

The Wiccan path is one of growth and even challenge. Inner peace begins with our taking an honest look at our pain and fear. Then, reach out to the God and Goddess. Conduct ritual and also give voice to chants and prayers. Own your Wiccan path, and start to see truly magickal things manifest.

Blessed Be,
Moonwater

When You Really Need Money— a Wiccan Ritual

“What is going on? I have so many spiritual friends who are having trouble with money,” my friend, Sabrina, said.

Wiccans do have possibilities to use magick to ease their burdens.

Here is a ritual to increase your money flow. Do this ritual on the waxing moon, for a duration of seven days (before the moon is full). If you can start on a Sunday, even better.

Financial Abundance Ritual

What you will need:

  • Green 7-day knobbed candle
  • Candle Snuffer
  • Candle holder
  • Money Drawing Oil*
  • $100 bill (if necessary you can use $10)
  • Altar Pentacle
  • Money Drawing Incense**
  • Charcoal for burning incense
  • Altar
  • Ritual tools
  • Cakes
  • Wine/juice

*Money Drawing oil

  • 1 drop Cinnamon oil
  • 3 drops Ginger oil
  • 5 drops Flax Seed oil

Combine all three oils in a carrier oil such as jojoba oil. Let the combined oil sit in the moonlight for three days. Allow it to stand in the dark for three weeks. Do not let it sit in the sun.

**Money Drawing Incense

  • 3 parts Cinnamon
  • 2 parts Ginger
  • 3 parts Flax Seed
  • 2 parts Myrrh

Mix ingredients with mortar and pestle, and let the mixture sit for three days before doing the ritual. Do not let it sit in the sun.

When the time is right, begin your ritual.

Cast circle in the usual manner.

Cleanse and consecrate your candle and the $100 bill. Dress your candle by rubbing the Money Drawing Oil from the tip to the base. Next rub a small amount of the Money Drawing Oil on your $100 bill and place it on your altar pentacle while saying:

Money Chant

Money comes
Money flows
Money stays
Money comes to me
Only in positive ways
And grows and grows!

Place the candle in the candle holder. Place them on top of your $100 bill. Repeat the Money Drawing Oil chant three more times, while concentrating on the candle.

Envision seeing your wallet/purse stuffed with money. Envision being able to pay bills and getting the things you need and want.

When you feel you have this image firmly in your mind, light the candle. Keep concentrating and focusing on your goal until the first knob has been consumed. Snuff your candle with a candle snuffer. Caution: Do not blow out your candle. This will blow out your intention.

For six more days in a row, repeat lighting the candle and focusing on your intention—with each knob. Once you have finished all seven days and the candle burns itself out, take the $100 bill and place it in your purse or wallet. Carry the bill to attract more money. Once you have what you desire, give the bill to charity***.

May this help you on your financial abundance journey.

*** An Important Consideration: Sometimes more than one ritual is needed because a person has significant blocks. If the ritual doesn’t work the first time, you may have to directly address your personal blocks to financial abundance.

Blessed Be,
Moonwater

Wiccans Stand in the Face of Fear and Uncertainty

whiteflower

“I don’t know what to do! I’m scared about what’s going to happen soon,” Jake said.

“Is it—?” I began.

“It’s this new administration. The new President and his buddies are going to take everything apart, and I’m going to get hurt. I’m worried about my health insurance and–” Jake said.

With this upcoming administration coming into the White House (President Elect of 2017) a lot of people are downright scared of what will happen. I know I am. As a witch, I fear for the environment and for my friends in my community. I also have other friends in other communities who are afraid that their rights will be snatched away.

I have fears about the safety of our water and other things.

With so much fear, how can someone combat the storm of uncertainty that is all around us?

I have created this simple ritual to help many us connect with God and Goddess. This can lead to some calmness and restful nights of sleep.

What you will need:

  • One white candle
  • White sage incense
  • One white flower
  • Amethyst crystal
  • Altar pentacle
  • Candle holder
  • Wine or juice
  • Cakes

Cast Circle in the usual manner.

Cleanse and consecrate the flower, crystal, and candle.

Place the flower and the crystal on the pentacle and say:

May peace be around me.

Insert the candle into candle holder and place it atop of the pentacle. Light the candle. Then kneel and say:

Goddess holds me,
God enfolds me.
I want to be clear,
With fear, ever near.
Give me the power to fight,
Remove darkness, be all right.
Have my heart set sail.
Let love prevail,
So, mote it be.

Do the Cakes and Wine Ceremony.

Close the Circle.

*  *  *

May this ritual bring you comfort, clarity and the energy to move forward.

Blessed Be,
Moonwater

The Hidden Children of the Goddess Book

The Hidden Children of the Goddess Embrace Wicca, Become Strong, Be at Peace with Yourself and the World Around You

Ms. SilverClaw has written a book that is really great for the beginner wanting to learn about Wiccan or wants to start practicing the art of Wicca. I found this book wonderful, easy to read, and extremely helpful and informative. It covers everything from what Wicca is, the history of Wicca and how Wicca became misassociated with evil, along with how Wicca can help/save people’s lives. Ms. SilverClaw also discusses practicing Wicca either in a Coven or Solo, and all the things you need in order to have in order to perform your ceremony, and she explains what each item means. She explains how to create spells and gives examples to use, and explains the pitfalls of creating certain types of spells. Ms. SilverClaw has truly created a book that is a cast all net the seems to cover everything that I needed to know to begin practicing Wicca. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is searching for their first book on the topic and wants to start practicing the art of Wicca or is just curious about the topic. This is truly a Must Have book. – Tamra L. Shipman

When Tragedy Strikes – How You Can Use Magick and Meditation to Ignite Your Inner Peace

FrenchFlag

In light of the recent attacks on the people in Paris, France, I feel overwhelmed with sadness and anger. I mourn deeply for the people who were murdered.

For a number of days I have been thinking about what to write. What would I discuss: Sorrow, rage, wanting justice, even the desire for some form of revenge?

Still, the idea that keeps arising in my mind is:

“An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.”— Mahatma Gandhi

Gandhi invites us to move beyond anger and vengeance.

Still, as I feel deeply about the situation, I realize that to maintain my own health, I need to get beyond pain, anger and sadness.

For you, I offer this meditation-exercise to help you maintain your own health and ability to take action in daily life.

Before I share this meditation-exercise, I realize that it is valuable for me to discuss two different forms of strength. These ideas arose in my conversation with one of my editors:

  • The Strength of Anger – in the short term, this can get us moving and it can be a channel for our own pain. But in the long term, it can lead to faulty decision-making. It is short sighted. Further, it can cause significant health problems.
  • The Enduring Strength of Inner Peace – Inner peace is an ever-renewing source of energy.

As my editor suggested, “If you get your inner energy right you can do more right. Inner peace can help you get past the sorrow and the anger so you can be in the present moment and have all of your resources.”

The below meditation-exercise is not about denying the need for justice and more protection.

The below meditation-exercise is designed to empower you to stay in a place of awareness and strength.

Meditation Magick Exercise on Letting Go and Finding Your Hidden Strength

You will need:

  • a blue candle
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • boline
  • incense
  • salt
  • water

Cast Your Circle in your usual manner.

Cleanse your blue candle with the elements Earth and Water. Then consecrate the blue candle with your incense smoke.

Use your boline and write (on the blue candle) the name of the event that is causing your pain.

Use the olive oil to “dress your candle.”

Concentrate on the blue color, which is for healing.

Light the blue candle and focus on its flame, representing the healing truth of love and strength.

Meditate on the flame. In your mind’s eye, see the flame burning away all the negativity in your aura and the space around you. Once you feel your space/aura is cleansed, go to the next step …

Now imagine the pain of the event in your life. The event may be a personal experience or a public one like the Paris attacks. Create an image (in your mind) that represents the event. See the image floating above the flame. Concentrate on the image until it is a solid image above the candle. Feel it; know it is there.

Breathe deeply in and out, in and out. In your mind’s eye, lower the image into the flame and watch it burn away. Feel the heat in your heart as the image and related pain is transformed into the purity of peace and strength. As the image vanishes, see that all that remains is a phoenix of peace and strength.

Do the Cakes and Wine Ceremony.

Close Your Circle in your usual way.

[When you’re done with the exercise, have the candle continue burning. Make sure that things are safe so that the candle can burn until it goes out on its own. Never leave a burning candle unattended.]

I hope this meditation-exercise supports you in your personal journey of healing.

Blessings,

Moonwater SilverClaw

How To Walk the Wiccan Path and Deal with a Family Member’s Discomfort

Shhhhh. . .

Shhhhh. . .

How To Walk the Wiccan Path and Deal with a Family Members Discomfort

Do your friends know you’re Wiccan? How about your family?

Do you have to keep your beliefs a secret at your workplace?

I am fairly open about my practicing Wicca.

Unfortunately, I do have a family member who suggests that I keep a low profile when I attend a work-related event with him. He works in an industry that includes people who speak out a lot about their Christianity. So I turn my talisman with a pentacle around when I’m at a work-related event with him.

Many times I have argued that this form of “hiding” impinges on my freedom as a witch.

At one point, we had one of his friends, a born-again Christian visit, and we kept the door to the room with my shrine closed.

All other times, I wear my pentacle jewelry with pride and talk openly about my beliefs.

I observe that, in America, one does business with a significant number of people who profess that they are Christian and that they hold conservative beliefs.

When I’m in a business situation with my family member, I honor his situation. I am NOT dishonoring the Gods by turning my talisman around, and I am honoring my family member’s concerns.

I am still a witch. Now if someone asks me about it, I will tell them the truth. I am a Wiccan High Priestess. I will not cower in the corner, but that hasn’t happened yet during my family member’s work-related events. I still wear my pentacle; I just do it incognito.

As a matter of fact, I always wear my pentacle. It brings me comfort, and I feel it gives me protection.

Those individuals who are Anti-Wiccan appear to be ignorant (definition: lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated in the subject at hand) about Wicca.

It bothers me when a person chooses not to learn, then the situation may become dangerous. When does the price of silence become too much to bear?

At present, we’re at a junction.

First, it is a blessing that many of our predecessors have hacked a path in the wilderness of fear and ignorance that other people have about Wicca. When a significant number of Wiccans openly express the beauty of Wicca, more people in this world start to appreciate who we Wiccans really are.

Fostering this appreciation is one of the reasons that I write this blog.

At this time, I have found my own path. I stand ready to share Wicca with others. And still at my family member’s work-related event, I do not broadcast my beliefs (I keep my talisman turned around).

As I continue to write this blog and my books, I’m encouraged to see other Wiccans continuing to have a positive influence in the world. May we all continue to express the beauty of Wicca.

Now, I invite you to share with us. Have you faced opposition in some form of conservative community? How do you deal with the situation?

Blessings,

Is Money Spiritual?

Happy Imbolc

Happy Imbolc to everyone. Hope you enjoy the post.

Money

Is Money Spiritual?

Have you heard in some form that “money is not spiritual”?

Some of us have heard a misquote that goes “Money is the root of all evil.”

(Actually, the correct quote is: “The love of money is the root of all evil.”)

There’s a real problem: ignoring money or actually looking down on having money causes unhappiness. Some say that having denial about money issues causes many people to end up poor and unable to take care of their own basic needs.

In Wicca we know our Gods want us to be happy. With this as true, does it make sense that our lacking money is what they want? No.  Now I’m not saying you need to be making buckets of money or that it’s necessary to have a whole lot more than you need.

But for many in our community money is elusive. Why?

For a number of individuals, Wicca was not their first taste of spirituality. They may come from different faiths that look down upon having money. The horrible part is that debilitating beliefs about money often stick in a person’s subconscious mind. And these sick beliefs push us to be unhappy.

Let’s go back to the misquote that goes “Money is the root of all evil.”

Is it money? No, fear is the root of all evil.

Think of it. Fear pushes us toward greed. Fear of never having enough. I remember the famous line from Gone With The Wind: “I will never be hungry again!” In that film, Scarlett O’Hara does extreme things because of her huge fear of being hungry or losing her property.

Is it possible that having money can frighten us? Yes, that can be a problem. Some of us have been conditioned to think that rich people are money-obsessed and that they do bad things. So on a subconscious level, some people are afraid of losing themselves and actually avoid opportunities to become rich and successful. Again, I call these sick beliefs.

Some of us are really afraid of having money. It continues to come from subconscious beliefs drilled into our heads that money was not spiritual.

Instead, I suggest that money is spiritual. Money creates opportunities for us to be happy. It creates safety for us and our families. The Gods want us to feel this way.

If we’re doing well with our personal money situation, we walk around with an air of positive energy. We can be compassionate to others. Expressing compassion is an important part of one’s spiritual path.

We have many ways of creating prosperity. I think just doing money spells is not the full answer.

Ideally, we would use magick to get to an inner state where we can work out problems that prevent us from enjoying financial abundance. We can do meditations and inner work to change the limiting thought patterns and beliefs we have about money. (For more about this, see a free chapter from my book The Hidden Children of the Goddess. CLICK HERE.

Some Wiccans may default to doing prosperity spells to gain money. However, it may help more for you to do a healing spell so that any blocks dissolve to learning how to earn more money, save money and improve spending habits.

Let’s start with new and empowering thoughts about money. Look at holding empowering definitions of words related to money. For example, author Jason Miller talks about the difference between rich and wealth. I think he says it well:

A rich person has a high income, which is a stream that can feed being wealthy or being in debt, depending on how that money is used. There is no shortage of people with high incomes but no real wealth. . . . Wealth is not a flow of income; it is a state of positive finances.

What is a state of positive finances? Such a state includes enough money for bills, some money for entertainment, savings for tough situations in life, some money to be kind to others, and savings towards one’s retirement. Positive finances is not about having just enough to barely get by. It is really about having some amount of financial abundance (more than enough).

To live in lack (including difficulties about money) really isn’t the Gods’ and Goddesses’ plan for us. They invite us to grow, learn and adapt. They invite us to learn something about creating financial abundance.

Let’s begin today.

Blessings,

Moonwater
